Smart packing list

The Smart packing list builds a checklist for your trip from your destination, dates and activities, using the weather for those exact days. It is free and also checks your plug adapter and voltage.

What will you do?

Who is going?

Pick a place to build your list.

Weather: forecast by MET Norway when your dates are within about 9 days, otherwise 2016–2025 averages (NASA POWER) for those dates. Plug types from IEC and national sources. A starting point: check your airline’s baggage rules and any local requirements before you go.

About the Smart packing list

The Smart packing list is a checklist maker for travelers who want to pack once and pack right. You pick a destination, your trip dates, your home country and what you plan to do, such as beach days, hiking or nice dinners. It looks up the weather for your dates and builds a grouped list, from documents to footwear, with notes that explain why each item is there. It suits short city breaks, long trips, carry-on only travel and families with kids or a baby.

How it works

  1. Choose your destination, or use your location, and enter your trip dates.
  2. Check your home country so it can compare plugs and voltage.
  3. Pick your activities and add Kids, Baby or Carry-on only if they apply.
  4. Tick items off as you pack, add your own, then print or share the link.

Why it helps on a trip

Packed for the real weather. A spring trip can be warm one week and wet the next. The list uses your actual dates, so if rain falls on most days, a rain layer is on it.
No dead chargers. Arriving with the wrong plug is a common first-night problem. The adapter check tells you before you leave whether you need one and whether your devices handle the voltage.
Lighter bags. Clothing amounts follow your trip length and assume laundry, so a two-week trip does not mean fourteen shirts.
Easy to share with family. Send the link to whoever is packing with you and they see the same list.

Tips

  • Make the list a week or two before you leave, then open it again close to departure to see the real forecast.
  • Turn on Carry-on only if you want to skip checked bags; quantities shrink to match.
  • Look at the label on your chargers: 100 to 240 V means they work almost anywhere with just a plug adapter.
  • Add your own items, like a favorite snack or medicine, so nothing personal gets left behind.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Smart packing list free?

Yes, it is free to use, with no account and no app to install. It works in any phone or computer browser. Your ticked items are remembered on your own device, and you can share a link that rebuilds the same list. The tool guesses your home country from your browser language to pre-set the plug check, and you can change it.

How does it know the weather for my trip?

If your trip starts within about 9 days, it uses a real forecast from MET Norway. For dates further ahead, it shows typical weather for those exact dates, based on 2016 to 2025 averages from NASA POWER, including typical highs and lows and how often it rains. Typical weather is a guide, not a forecast, so check again closer to departure.

Do I need a plug adapter or a voltage converter?

You need a plug adapter when your home plugs do not fit the sockets at your destination. A voltage converter is only needed for devices that are not dual-voltage. Most phone and laptop chargers are labeled 100 to 240 V and work worldwide with an adapter. Hair dryers and straighteners are often single-voltage. The packing list compares plugs and voltage for 165 countries.

How many clothes should I pack for two weeks?

Most travelers pack for about a week and do laundry, rather than packing for every day. The Smart packing list follows that idea: clothing quantities grow with trip length, but it assumes you wash clothes after a week, or after 5 days if you choose Carry-on only. Adjust for your plans, such as extra layers for cold evenings.

Can I save my packing list and come back later?

Yes. Items you tick off are remembered on the device you used, with a progress bar showing how far along you are. You can also share a link that rebuilds the same list on another phone or computer, or print it. Items you add yourself are part of your list on that device.
