About the Weather and outdoor planner

The Weather and outdoor planner helps you plan days outside on a trip, whether you leave tomorrow or in ten months. For the next nine days or so it shows a real hourly forecast, and for any day it can point out dry, comfortable daylight windows with activity ideas. For dates further ahead it shows typical weather for those exact dates, clearly labelled, and a 12-month chart helps you choose when to go. It suits hikers, beach lovers, cyclists and anyone planning sightseeing around the weather.

How it works

  2. Look over the days with their colored weather icons.
  3. Tap a day to see the best times to be outside and the tips for that day.

Why it helps on a trip

Plan around the rain. If an afternoon looks wet, the planner shows the dry morning window, so you hike early and visit a museum later.
Choose when to go. Comparing months in the 12-month chart shows which part of the year is drier or milder before you book.
Stay comfortable outside. UV and heat notes remind you when to bring sunscreen and water, and when midday is best spent in the shade.
Catch the best light. Golden hour times help you plan a sunset walk or photos without guessing.

Tips

  • For trips more than about 9 days away, use typical weather to pack, then check the forecast again a few days before.
  • Plan hikes and beach time in the first dry window of the day, especially in hot places.
  • Mountain weather can change fast; carry a layer even when the day looks fine.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Weather and outdoor planner free?

Yes, the planner is free and needs no account or app. It works in any phone or computer browser. You can pick any place we cover or use the nearest one to you; if you share your location, it is only used to answer that request and is not saved to any profile. Dates are pre-filled from today and easy to change.

How far ahead is the weather forecast accurate?

Weather forecasts are most reliable for the next few days and become less certain further out. The planner shows a real hourly forecast from MET Norway for about the next 9 days. Beyond that, it switches to typical weather based on past years, which tells you what is usual for those dates rather than what will happen.

What does typical weather mean?

Typical weather is an average of what happened on those same dates in past years. The planner uses 2016 to 2025 averages from NASA POWER to show typical highs, lows and how often it rains. It is a good guide for packing and choosing when to travel, but any single year can be warmer, cooler, wetter or drier.

What is the best time of day for hiking or the beach?

It depends on the place and the season, but early morning is often cooler and calmer, and in many hot or tropical places, rain showers come in the afternoon. Tap a day in the planner to see the dry, comfortable daylight windows, along with UV, heat and wind notes, so you can plan around that day's weather.

What is the UV index and when should I worry about it?

The UV index measures the strength of the sun's ultraviolet rays. A value of 3 or more is a common point to start using sun protection, and 8 or above is very high. UV is usually strongest around midday, and is stronger at altitude and near water, sand or snow. The planner adds UV tips for each day.
