Short answer: the best time to visit Bermuda is May to October, when the sea is warm enough for swimming and the pink-sand beaches are at their best. May and June are the sweet spot, with warm days, the fewest rainy days of the year and a low risk of storms; July to September is hottest and busiest, and August and September are the peak of the hurricane season. November to April is mild, quiet and cheaper, better for golf, walking and sightseeing than for the beach.
This page goes through Bermuda month by month as of October 2026: the weather and sea temperatures, the hurricane season, crowds and prices, and events such as Bermuda Day, Cup Match and the spring whale migration. Bermuda is not in the Caribbean: it lies in the Atlantic about 1,000 km (650 miles) off North Carolina, so its winters are much cooler. Bermuda weather month by month
Weather month by month
The climate table shows average daily highs and lows, monthly rain and rainy days. The figures on this page are the official 1991–2020 climate normals for the Bermuda Weather Service station at the airport, submitted to the World Meteorological Organization and archived by NOAA, with rainy days counted as days with at least 1 mm (0.04 in) of rain. The airport averages about 1,450 mm (57 in) of rain a year, spread across every month and usually falling in short showers. The Gulf Stream keeps Bermuda mild in winter, and sea temperatures range from about 19 °C (66 °F) in February and March to 28–29 °C (82–84 °F) in August.

Highs about 21 °C (69 °F), lows about 16 °C (61 °F) and 128 mm (5.0 in) of rain on about 14 days, the most rainy days of the year. Winter in Bermuda is mild but windy and changeable, with cold fronts every few days. It is quiet, cheap and good for walking, museums and golf, but too cool for most people to swim.
February
Similar to January: highs about 20 °C (69 °F), lows about 15 °C (60 °F) and 124 mm (4.9 in) of rain on about 13 days. The sea is at its coolest, about 19 °C (66 °F). Hotel rates are among the lowest of the year.
March
Highs about 21 °C (69 °F) and 119 mm (4.7 in) of rain on 12 days. Humpback whales pass Bermuda on their northward migration in March and April, and whale-watching boats run from about early March to late April; you can sometimes see their spouts from the south shore. Good Friday falls on 26 March 2027, a public holiday, when Bermudians fly homemade kites.
April
Spring warming: highs about 22 °C (72 °F), lows about 17 °C (63 °F) and 87 mm (3.4 in) of rain on about 9 days, the driest month by volume. It is still the end of whale season. Some hardy swimmers start in late April, but the sea is cool. Portuguese man-of-war can wash in on spring days, so look before you swim.
May
One of the best months: highs about 24 °C (76 °F), lows about 20 °C (68 °F) and only about 8 rainy days, the fewest of the year. The beach season starts in late May, and Bermuda Day, a public holiday with a parade and a half-marathon, falls on 28 May 2027. Prices begin to rise.
June
Warm and mostly settled: highs about 27 °C (81 °F), lows about 23 °C (73 °F) and 110 mm (4.3 in) of rain on about 10 days. The hurricane season starts on 1 June, but early-season storms near Bermuda are uncommon. National Heroes Day is a public holiday on 21 June 2027. The Harbour Nights street festival runs on Wednesday evenings in Hamilton during the summer.
July
Hot, humid and sunny: highs about 30 °C (85 °F), lows about 25 °C (77 °F) and 116 mm (4.6 in) of rain on 11 days. High season, with cruise ships and families, and the highest hotel rates. Cup Match, a two-day cricket match between the east and west ends of the island and Bermuda’s biggest celebration, takes place on Emancipation Day and Mary Prince Day, 29–30 July 2027; book early.
August
The hottest month, with highs about 30 °C (86 °F), lows about 25 °C (77 °F) and the warmest sea, about 28–29 °C (82–84 °F). It is also the wettest month by volume, with 165 mm (6.5 in) of rain on 13 days, much of it in thunderstorms. Hurricane activity builds from mid-August, so book flexible rates.
September
Highs about 29 °C (84 °F), 145 mm (5.7 in) of rain on 12 days and a still-warm sea. This is the peak of the hurricane season. After Labour Day (6 September 2027), crowds thin and prices start to fall, so if you are flexible it can be good value.
October
Warm and pleasant: highs about 27 °C (80 °F), lows about 22 °C (72 °F) and 149 mm (5.9 in) of rain on 12 days, with the sea still warm enough to swim. Best time to visit by area
The south shore beaches
June to September for swimming at Horseshoe Bay and the coves of South Shore Park, with lifeguards at Horseshoe Bay in summer. In winter, the coastal trail is a beautiful walk, and the beaches are almost empty. On windy days, choose sheltered bays such as Tobacco Bay, Church Bay or Jobson’s Cove. See our beaches guide.
Hamilton
All year. Summer brings Harbour Nights on Wednesday evenings and the busiest restaurants and bars; winter is quiet but pleasant for the museums, shops and Fort Hamilton.
St. George’s
Spring and autumn, when it is warm enough to sit outside but not too hot to walk the lanes, forts and Tobacco Bay. The town is quieter on days without cruise visitors.
The Royal Naval Dockyard and the West End
November to April, when far fewer cruise ships call at the Dockyard piers and the National Museum is quiet. From late spring to autumn, the Dockyard is busiest on cruise days; go early or late.
Best time for swimming, snorkeling, diving, whale watching and golf
Swimming and snorkeling
June to September, when the sea is warmest. Late May and October are good too, if you don’t mind cooler water. See our snorkeling guide.
Diving
May to October for the warmest water and the calmest seas over Bermuda’s reefs and more than 300 shipwrecks. Winter diving is possible, but cold fronts make the sea rough. See our diving guide.
Whale watching
March and April, when humpback whales pass on their way north. Boats run from Hamilton, the Dockyard and Flatts; trips can be cancelled when the sea is rough.
Golf, walking and cycling
November to April, when it is mild and the courses and trails are quiet. The Bermuda Railway Trail and South Shore Park are good all year, best early in the day in summer. See our hiking guide.
Seasons to plan around
- Hurricane season (1 June to 30 November): according to NOAA’s National Hurricane Center, most activity falls between mid-August and mid-October. Bermuda is affected by a hurricane every few years; its strict building codes and well-practiced preparations limit damage. As of early October 2026, the 2026 season had brought no storms to Bermuda. The airport and ferries close during storms, so book flexible rates and buy insurance that covers hurricanes.
- Winter wind (December to March): cool, windy and changeable, with choppy seas that can cancel boat trips; the sea is too cool for most swimmers.
- Sargassum: Bermuda sits on the edge of the Sargasso Sea, so some seaweed washes up naturally, mostly on south-facing beaches after storms, but rarely in large amounts.
- Peak dates: Bermuda Day (28 May 2027), Cup Match (29–30 July 2027) and summer weekends; hotels and rental scooters book out.
- Public holidays in 2027: 1 January, Good Friday (26 March), Bermuda Day (28 May), National Heroes Day (21 June), Emancipation Day and Mary Prince Day (29–30 July), Labour Day (6 September), Remembrance Day (11 November), Christmas and Boxing Day. Shops and some services close.
How long to stay
Three days covers the south shore beaches and St. George’s; five days lets you see the whole island, including the Dockyard and the caves; a week suits a slow beach holiday. See the sample itineraries in our Bermuda travel guide.
