Frequently asked questions
Can I pay in US dollars?
A few countries use the US dollar as their official currency, including Ecuador, El Salvador, Panama (alongside the balboa) and Timor-Leste, and in some others, such as Cambodia and the Maldives, prices for travelers are often quoted in dollars. Elsewhere, paying in the local currency usually gets a better price.
Should I pay in my home currency when the card machine offers it?
Usually not. Choosing your home currency at the card machine (dynamic currency conversion) normally adds a worse exchange rate. Choose the local currency and let your card do the conversion.
