Frequently asked questions
Does 112 work everywhere?
112 is the emergency number across the European Union and many other countries, and many mobile networks route it to the local emergency service even where it is not the official number. It is not guaranteed everywhere, so use the local number in the table when there is one.
Can I call an emergency number without a local SIM card?
In many countries you can call the emergency number from any mobile phone, even with a foreign SIM card or no credit. Coverage and rules vary, so a local SIM or eSIM is still useful, and in remote areas your hotel or lodge may be able to arrange help faster.
What is tourist police?
Some countries, such as Thailand, run a tourist police service with English-speaking officers to help visitors with theft, scams and lost documents. Where one exists, its number is in the table.
